Why recall beats rereading
Learning research has repeatedly found that practicing retrieval, answering questions from memory, leads to better long-term recall than rereading the same material.
How to do it
Close the book and write down everything you remember, then check what you missed. Turn notes into questions. Use flashcards with the question on one side and the answer on the other.
Make mistakes useful
Mark the questions you got wrong and come back to them first next time. Struggling to remember is part of what makes it stick.
Do this today
Turn one page of today's notes into five questions and answer them without looking.
